Professor Dr. El-Sayed Kandil, President of Capital University (formerly Helwan University), received H.E. Ambassador Angelina Eichhorst, Head of the European Union Delegation to the Arab Republic of Egypt, on the sidelines of an open dialogue session organized by the University’s International Relations Office. The meeting was attended by prominent academic leaders, including Professor Dr. Emad Abu El-Dahab, Vice President for Graduate Studies and Research; Professor Dr. Hossam Refai, Vice President for Education and Student Affairs; Dr. Esraa Yasser Dawoud, Director of the International Relations Office; and Mr. Sayed Atta, Secretary of Helwan National University.

Comprehensive Development and European-Standard Academic Programs

At the beginning of the meeting, the University President reviewed the history and development of Capital University, highlighting its recent expansions, including the establishment of new faculties aligned with labor market needs and the development of infrastructure. This includes the construction of a fully integrated medical complex with a capacity of 1,800 beds, in addition to a university club, an arts and culture complex, and Helwan University Company for Educational Services.

He also pointed to the qualitative transformation the university is undergoing through the establishment of a new branch in the New Administrative Capital Gardens area, offering modern academic programs that meet societal needs. Additionally, he highlighted the expansion of diverse education models through national and technological university branches.

Dr. Kandil emphasized the university’s direction toward accrediting its academic programs in accordance with European standards to enhance its international competitiveness. He also noted the development of faculties of physical education into faculties of sports sciences, introducing modern specializations such as sports management, marketing, and rehabilitation. Furthermore, he addressed the university’s efforts to support international students, aiming to increase their percentage to 10% of the total student population by providing integrated services and distinguished academic programs.

Enhancing International Competitiveness and Building Sustainable Partnerships

Professor Dr. Emad Abu El-Dahab stressed the importance of raising awareness within the academic community about European scholarship opportunities, encouraging students and researchers to take advantage of them. He noted that such opportunities contribute to advancing the research system, enhancing the university’s global competitiveness, and building sustainable academic partnerships with European institutions.

Dr. Esraa Yasser Dawoud, Director of the International Relations Office, explained that the meeting is part of the office’s efforts to create interactive platforms that connect decision-makers with the academic community, supporting international learning opportunities and cultural exchange.

Promising European Scholarship Opportunities and Research Support

During the session, various European Union scholarship opportunities were highlighted, including academic exchange programs, postgraduate studies, research support initiatives, and capacity-building programs. The discussion also explored prospects for cooperation between Egyptian universities and European educational institutions.

The meeting witnessed strong engagement from attendees, providing a platform for direct dialogue between the ambassador, students, and faculty members. Questions were addressed regarding scholarships, European programs, and ways to benefit from them, along with discussions on academic collaboration and international exchange opportunities.
