Dr. Ibrahim Saber, Governor of Cairo, affirmed that the state places great importance on the development of Downtown Cairo, considering it one of the most significant historical and cultural areas in the capital. He pointed out that a comprehensive plan is underway to restore its vibrancy and capitalize on its heritage character in a way that befits Cairo’s status among world capitals.

This came during the University Council meeting of Capital University, chaired by Professor Dr. El-Sayed Kandil, President of the University.

The Governor explained that the development plan aims to transform Downtown Cairo into a vibrant hub for arts and culture, through allocating designated spaces and streets for visual arts and musical performances. This initiative seeks to create an open creative environment for the public and enhance cultural tourism attraction. He also noted plans to designate specific streets as permanent platforms for artists and creatives, as part of a modern vision that positions the arts as a key element of the state’s soft power.

He further indicated that coordination is underway to sign a cooperation protocol with Capital University, particularly its faculties of arts and music, to organize artistic events and activities within the area. This would ensure the sustainability of cultural momentum and strengthen youth participation in the development process.

The Governor also addressed development efforts in Helwan, noting that the “Kobriatage” area is currently undergoing upgrading works aimed at improving infrastructure and the overall visual and service quality, contributing to a better quality of life and presenting the area in a comprehensive modern urban image.

For his part, Professor Dr. El-Sayed Kandil, President of Capital University, emphasized the importance of involving faculties of arts and music in such initiatives, stressing the need to highlight Cairo’s cultural and artistic dimension in line with global cities hosting major artistic and cultural events.

He explained that organizing large-scale celebrations, such as arts festivals, represents an important step toward revitalizing tourism activity, affirming that students constitute a real force in showcasing the beauty of the nation and society through their artistic creativity, which reflects Egypt’s civilizational identity.

He added that the university is committed to supporting these efforts through its students and specialized faculties, contributing to presenting a distinguished aesthetic image of Cairo and enhancing the role of youth in community participation and cultural development.

The University Council meeting was attended by Professor Dr. Hossam Refai, Vice President for Education and Student Affairs, Professor Dr. Emad Abu El-Dahab, Vice President for Postgraduate Studies and Research, Professor Dr. Walid El-Srogy, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development, Major General Mohamed Abu Shaqa, Secretary-General of the University, along with advisors, deans of faculties, and 2assistant secretaries.
